Q. How long does it take to get a marriage license in California?
Marriage licenses are valid for 90 days from the date of issuance. If you do not get married within 90 days, the license will no longer be valid. You must purchase a new license. Many County Clerks in California perform civil marriage ceremonies in their offices.
Tip: Two separate appointments are required – one for the marriage license and another one for the actual ceremony. If you are anxious like me, get the license in advance (valid for 90 days from the date of issuance) or book at least an hour prior to the ceremony.
Tip: If you don’t need the photographer to be your witness, book wedding photographer just before the ceremony time so that you are able to utilize the photography coverage resourcefully.
